On Thursday, Breakers' midfielder Kaylyn Kyle and defender Rhian Wilkinson earned invitations to join the Canadian National Team ahead of a Nov. 24 friendly against Mexico. The defensive-minded pair will join ex-Breaker Carmelina Moscato, who swapped teams with Kyle after a September trade with Seattle.
Of the 23 players who earned spots on the Canadian roster, 13 play for American-based NWSL sides, including forward Adriana Leon, who made six appearances for the Breakers in 2013. Leon will join a squad of familiar pieces, as 18 rostered players represented Team Canada during a 3-0 win over Korea Republic in October.
Expect Kyle to hold her traditional defensive midfield role, with Wilkinson starting as a wing back to push forward behind standout strikers Christine Sinclair and Josée Bélanger.
The November 24 match will broadcast live nationally on Sportsnet One (4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT).
