After every match this season, the staff here at The Bent Musket will be putting together player ratings. Ratings are on a 1-10 scale, with 5 representing a thoroughly average performance, and 6 a decent/capable showing. The final ratings will be averages of individual ratings from Steve Stoehr, Corey Major, Matty Jollie, and Abram Chamberlain. Brendan Schimmel had to sit this one out.
Matt Reis: Average Rating - 6.25 (Steve 6.5, Corey 6, Matty 6, Abram 6.5)
Steve: Another solid performance. That double save near the end of the game was spectacular...Corey: Another solid game for the man wearing the captain's armband...Matty: Really pleased to see Reis step up so well with the armband on...Abram: There was one sequence towards the end of the game where he made three straight saves. The guy still has it.
Kevin Alston: Average Rating - 6.125 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 6, Abram 7.5)
Steve: Once again, eerily good on the left. Should have scored, and for once I wish he'd just taken the shot instead of thinking about it...Corey: Not a bad outing on the left side. I'd say some slight improvement over last outing. I'm not sold on him there, but nice to know he can be versatile...Matty: You know what? That's not a bad performance considering he played on the complete opposite side. Proving once again that for all the criticisms, Alston possesses a very special skill set...Abram: I'm over the top about his game, positionally aware, shut down Renteria, two huge interceptions late in the game, great going forward. Perhaps the best game I've seen out of him in two years.
Darrius Barnes: Average Rating - 5.875 (Steve 6, Corey 6, Matty 6, Abram 5.5)
Steve: Strong, imposing, and assured...Corey: Another solid game. Really been liking Barnes out there, and seems like he is jazzed on it, too...Matty: I told you to give him playing time. Thank you for proving me right!...Abram: He's showing that maybe he could have been used more early in the season. More importantly, he looked like a leader out there.
Stephen McCarthy: Average Rating - 6.5 (Steve 6.5, Corey 6.5, Matty 6.5, Abram 6.5)
Steve: His emergence as a professional-grade defender might be the best story of the season...Corey: Comfortable and composed, looked a bit more bossy which I like...Matty: Played with more attitude, which is when I feel he's more productive...Abram: I continue to ask, when did he become our best CB?
Florian Lechner: Average Rating - 5.75 (Steve 5, Corey 6.5, Matty 6, Abram 5.5)
Steve: People are high on his performance, but I'm not so sure. Throw-ins were dangerous, but the passing wasn't great. Ok defensively, though...Corey: He's not the perfect RB but he had a damn good game. Shows a lot of grit, which we've lacked severely this season...Matty: Professional. Tenacious, makes up for shortcomings by excelling in other areas...Abram: Great at time, average at others, sort of his season in a nutshell. I'm still torn if he's one to keep for next year.
Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 5.875 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6, Matty 5.5, Abram 6.5)
Steve: Looked aggressive and dangerous. Probably should have scored, though...Corey: Very active, created some nice chances and wasn't afraid to take shots when he had the opportunity...Matty: Better from Lee as far as having a go when the opportunity presented itself...Abram: He is so good. Anyone who wonders why Benny didn't play needs only look at Lee. He most certainly needs to be locked down for next year.
Ryan Guy: Average Rating - 6.125 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6.5, Matty 6.5, Abram 6)
Steve: Covered a lot of ground and helped keep the midfield together, which was good, but had some giveaways, too...Corey: Very dynamic, covered a lot of ground as usual. Had some nice attempts on goal. Really been into him at CAM lately. Works well with others...Matty: Big night for Guy as he was all over the field once again...Abram: I like him trying stuff, which he did repeatedly. The man is much more creative in the attack than given credit for.
Clyde Simms: Average Rating - 5.375 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5, Abram 5.5)
Steve: Much better than his last outing, passing was improved, good midfield presence...Corey: Steady but seems like something is missing?...Matty: Meh. Steady game...Abram: Seemed to be playing a little higher, maybe that was the difference.
Kelyn Rowe: Average Rating - 5.5 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 6, Abram 5)
Steve: Needs to finish that chance, but was otherwise pretty effective...Corey: Getting himself more involved. Still room for improvement but looks like he is at least trying...Matty: Learning how to impose himself on the game a little more, which I like...Abram: Seemed to be playing a little higher, maybe that was the difference.
Diego Fagundez: Average Rating - 6.25 (Steve 6, Corey 7, Matty 6, Abram 6)
Steve: Lively, played some good passes, set up a goal...Corey: Much nicer from Diego. Seen a lot of vanilla out of him this season, nice to see him mix things up and create opportunities. Looked dangerous like he did at the tail-end of last season...Matty: Better. Looked more dynamic, had more bite in this one...Abram: Better than I would have expected, created havoc, seemed to have nice chemistry with Imbongo.
Dimitry Imbongo: Average Rating - 7.5 (Steve 7.5, Corey 7.5, Matty 7.5, Abram 7.5)
Steve: Absolute physical handful, and a goal. Loved this performance...Corey: Hit the ground running in this one. Came out ready to contribute. Didn't look phased by anyone or anything. Exceeded expectations by a mile...Matty: MoTM. Good first goal, and his constant pressure created the second. Abram: One good game is usually not enough to get me excited, but I am more than intrigued by the possibility of a 4-3-3 with him, Bengtson and Sene.
Chris Tierney (sub): Average Rating - 5.375 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5.5, Abram 5)
Steve: Made an impact. Happy 100 appearances, pal...Corey: Good shift and nice to get the 100 appearances...Matty: Solid outing. Happy 100th...Abram: Had a great clearance, not a whole lot more. Good, short shift.
Blake Brettschneider (sub): Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5, Corey 5, Matty 5, Abram 5)
Steve: Unremarkable performance, but didn't have a lot of time to make an impact...Corey: Didn't get to see much from Blake...Matty: Nothing good or bad, didn't really make an impact...Abram: e played and he didn't poop the bed, can't ask for much more.
Fernando Cardenas (sub): Average Rating - N/A
Not enough time to make an impact.
