After every match this season, the staff here at The Bent Musket will be putting together player ratings. Ratings are on a 1-10 scale, with 5 representing a thoroughly average performance, and 6 a decent/capable showing. The final ratings will be averages of individual ratings from Steve Stoehr, Corey Major, and Matty Jollie. Brendan Schimmel and Abram Chamberlain had to sit this one out.
Bobby Shuttleworth: Average Rating - 5.33 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5.5)
Steve: Bobby was solid, except on the goal. Miscommunication with Soares, but he still shares fault...Corey: Decent game. Knows where he messed up on the goal. Wasn't tested all that much really. Had one really clutch save that sticks out though...Matty: Often times as a keeper you're only tested once or twice, and unfortunately, he let one of those chances in.
Kevin Alston: Average Rating - 5.5 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5.5)
Steve: Once again, running strong at left-back. The number of errors he's made since moving is incredibly low...Corey: Had a fine game on the left, but not quite as good as the last couple matches. Wasn't really very instrumental in the attack like he needs to be...Matty: Thought he took a step back at LB, but it really was a sharp performance once again.
A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 5.83 (Steve 5, Corey 6, Matty 6.5)
Steve: Generally solid, but shares blame for the goal. Good to see him back in the lineup, though...Corey: Put in a solid shift. Would still like to see more out of him, knowing what he is capable of...Matty: I thought AJ played solidly. Hasn't seen consistent minutes, but you couldn't tell.
Darrius Barnes: Average Rating - 7.83 (Steve 8, Corey 8, Matty 7.5)
Steve: Not only scored the goal, but put in an incredible shift at both center-back and right-back. For real, his passes out of the back, both floor and aerial, were money, and he was a colossus in defense...Corey: What more can one say after this game. Good shift at CB. Really nice at RB. Dominant in the air on both ends of the field. He may have just played himself into a serious battle for minutes with the rest of the back-line...Matty: MoTM, continues to grow, and give the doubters something to think about.
Florian Lechner: Average Rating - 5.17 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5)
Steve: I thought he was solid, but it was a short run-out...Corey: Good shift but the injury cut it short...Matty: He's very polished, but also very vanilla.
Kelyn Rowe: Average Rating - 5.17 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5)
Steve: Showed his creativity, but also showed that he's still too mentally slow for this level. Game is half a step faster than he's thinking right now...Corey: The rookie showed tonight how involved he can be but also how slow he is. Dude needs to show more quickness, both physically and mentally...Matty: Still getting pushed off the ball a bit, needs to be more aggressive.
Clyde Simms: Average Rating - 5.83 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6, Matty 6)
Steve: Quiet but solid, effective in his passing...Corey: Thought he had a really nice game. Would have liked to see him stay on for longer rather than get subbed off...Matty: Better from Clyde, a little more bite to his game this week.
Ryan Guy: Average Rating - 6.33 (Steve 6.5, Corey 6.5, Matty 6)
Steve: He wasn't having his best game, but then he put in that inch-perfect cross...Corey: Was having sort of an off-game but gets a big boost for his picture-perfect cross for the assist on Barnes' goal...Matty: Sometimes when you're having an average night, it takes one good cross to turn it into a very good performance.
Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 6.5 (Steve 6, Corey 7, Matty 6.5)
Steve: Vibrant, energetic, and really the heart and soul of the attack. Great on free kicks, too...Corey: Excellent night for Lee. Super involved. Played a bit more selfish than usual which I think is a good thing. Helped on defense a good amount...Matty: All over the field, had a sense of urgency to his game. Want to see more of that.
Jerry Bengtson: Average Rating - 7.33 (Steve 7.5, Corey 7.5, Matty 7)
Steve: Robbed by an incorrect offside call, and then later robbed by a great Gaudette save. Best game in the shirt...Corey: Should have had at least 1 goal. Got totally robbed there. His runs off the ball continue to impress me. He is constantly aware of his surroundings and in-tune with the pace of the game. This guy is going to score like 20 goals next season, seriously...Matty: I'm giving him the credit on the first goal, and you can really see the seasoning and veteran presence he brings to the field as a striker.
Diego Fagundez: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 4.5)
Steve: Ripped off a good shot that forced a save, but his impact overall was average...Corey: Not his most inspired performance...Matty: Too small, needs to hit the weights. MLS style still bruising.
Stephen McCarthy (sub): Average Rating - 5.17 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5)
Steve: Nondescript performance, which isn't necessarily a bad thing...Corey: Did well but didn't play with the same sort of confidence that he seems to have gathered over the last few outings...Matty: Average, I felt. Maybe a little hesitant?
Juan Toja (sub): Average Rating - 5.17 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5)
Steve: Rust was more obvious in this game than last week, but his class is still apparent...Corey: His timing was off. Guilty of a number of giveaways. Also a lot of positives to his play as well. I'm looking forward to 2013 with him...Matty: Just needs more time with the squad, and needs to knock the rust off.
Benny Feilhaber (sub): Average Rating - 5.67 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6, Matty 5.5)
Steve: He has responded very well to being benched, I think. Played well...Corey: Decent. Made some things happen. What an enigma though...Matty: Always brings quality, sprung a few opportunities.
