Revolution vs. Fire: Player Ratings and Man of the Match

Getty Images

After every match this season, the staff here at The Bent Musket will be putting together player ratings. Ratings are on a 1-10 scale, with 5 representing a thoroughly average performance, and 6 a decent/capable showing. The final ratings will be averages of individual ratings from Corey Major, and Matty Jollie. Brendan Schimmel had to sit this one out.

Matt Reis: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5, Matty 4.5, Abram 5)

Steve: Made some phenomenal saves to keep his team in it. Unfortunate to concede twice...Corey: Looked youthful in a number of ways, but perhaps not youthful enough...Matty: Did well on the penalty, but two goals are two goals...Abram: Did everything he could on the penalty, was hung out to dry on the second goal.

Chris Tierney: Average Rating - 4.25 (Steve 4.5, Corey 4.5, Matty 4, Abram 4)

Steve: Distinctly average, but a little worse as Chicago's attack had him pinned well back. No impact on the match...Corey: Underwhelming night but not terrible...Matty: Wasn't involved as much on the attack, seemed a little aloof at times...Abram: Tierney has me wondering if Tyler Polak still exists.

A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 3.625 (Steve 3.5, Corey 4, Matty 4, Abram 3)

Steve: Worst performance he's given in the shirt, but he certainly wasn't helped by anybody around him...Corey: Might be his worst outing yet...Matty: Yes it was a penalty, yes AJ's form is slipping...Abram: Fast asleep on the MacDonald goal, at fault for the penalty. WHICH WAS A PENALTY.

Stephen McCarthy: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 4.5, Abram 5)

Steve: Partial fault on the penalty but not enough to tip the scales against him. Only Revs player good in the air...Corey: Fine night but nothing special really...Matty: Not much better, but he's adjusted well to CB, and is an asset...Abram: Another solid performance.

Kevin Alston: Average Rating - 5.25 (Steve 5, Corey 5, Matty 5, Abram 6)

Steve: Poor marking in the box created one or two hairy moments, but Kevin actually had a rather solid match...Corey: Good job, good effort...Matty: I was happy with Kevin's performance. Might be the only one...Abram: In position all night, kept with Nyarko sans a few moments towards the end, the only defender even aware of Macdonald on his goal.

Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 4.5 (Steve 4.5, Corey 5, Matty 4, Abram 4.5)

Steve: I actually forgot he was playing. Dealing with obvious fitness problems, hope he gets healthy fast...Corey: Was clearly dealing with some fitness issues. Hope he's all right...Matty: Tough to see him on the sidelines with ice packs, time off may be good for him...Abram: Hopefully he regains traction.

Clyde Simms: Average Rating: 5 (Steve 4.5, Corey 6, Matty 4.5, Abram 5)

Steve: Fell asleep and left Soares out to dry on the penalty. Inexcusable. Not having the calming impact we expect lately...Corey: Had an improved performance than the last couple. Gave us
what we've come to expect...Matty: I know we're used to saying "same old Simms" by now, but if he's going to wear the armband, he needs to do more...Abram: Average.

Ryan Guy: Average Rating - 5.25 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5, Matty 5.5, Abram 5)

Steve: 85.9% passing accuracy, endless motor, looking like one of the Revs' best right now. Wish he would be locked in one position, though...Corey: Hard worker but didn't really offer much in the way of a spark...Matty: Once again his untiring energy and motor impresses me...Abram: The Revs swiss army knife. Good at a lot, great at none.

Fernando Cardenas: Average Rating - 5.75 (Steve 6, Corey 6, Matty 6, Abram 5)

Steve: The goal gets you the rating, but he could have been better in a lot of spots...Corey: Very nice night from Fernando. However, still makes too many poor, costly decisions...Matty: Good blue-collar goal, they all count the same. Better direction for his energy this week, looked dangerous often...Abram: He is a great sub, not impressed with him when he starts.

Saer Sene: Average Rating - 4.875 (Steve 5, Corey 4.5, Matty 5.5, Abram 4.5)

Steve: Good assist, but the rest of the night his movement and touches were off...Corey: Such a pushover. I'm close to saying bench him...Matty: Good cross on the goal, need more of that from him in and around the box...Abram: Saer was so good in the first 15 minutes and then faded for the rest of the game.

Blake Brettschneider: Average Rating - 5.125 (Steve 5, Corey 5, Matty 5, Abram 5.5)

Steve: Actually put in some very good hold-up play...Corey: Got himself involved but needs to be making
better runs out there...Matty: Liked what I saw from BB. Looked a little dangerous at times...Abram: Looked to be the most dangerous Revs attacker on the night.

Benny Feilhaber (sub): Average Rating - 4.375 (Steve 4.5, Corey 4, Matty 5, Abram 4)

Steve: He added some fluidity, but faded quickly. Still think he should start...Corey: Quiet and unimaginative...Matty: Pretty quiet night, but Benny needs to be starting on this team...Abram: I don't know what to make of Benny right now.

Jerry Bengtson (sub): Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 4.5, Abram 5)

Steve: When he got the ball, he didn't look too bad at times. Didn't get much of the ball, but not for lack of trying...Corey: Much better than last game. Looked like his legs were a little fresher. Looked hungry and I want more...Matty: Playing alone in the box isn't going to help the DP striker. He needs support...Abram: Looked dangerous a few times, needs to develop chemistry with Sene. Should improve as he actually gets to practice with the team.

Kelyn Rowe (sub): Average Rating - 4 (Steve 4, Corey 3.5, Matty 5, Abram 3.5)

Steve: Better than recently, but not good by any view...Corey: zzzzzz...Matty: Usual sub performance, brought a little different dynamic, but ultimately the play was too sloppy...Abram: Was expecting something from Rowe, anything, got nothing.
