Revolution vs. Impact: Player Ratings and Man of the Match

Getty Images

After every match this season, the staff here at The Bent Musket will be putting together player ratings. Ratings are on a 1-10 scale, with 5 representing a thoroughly average performance, and 6 a decent/capable showing. The final ratings will be averages of individual ratings from Steve Stoehr, Matty Jollie, and Abram Chamberlain. Brendan Schimmel is sitting out due to his Rebellion commitments.

Matt Reis: Average Rating - 4.625 (Steve 5, Corey 4.5, Matty 4.5, Abram 4.5)

Steve: Couldn't do much on either goal...Corey: Made a couple fine saves, but if he had a more aerial presence maybe he would have been able to handle, or punch, Justin Mapp's cross leading to the 2nd goal...Matty: A few good stops, but again it's the indecision in the air that costs the Revs...Abram: While the last goal was highlight worthy, Reis probably could have gotten to it. Interested to see who starts on Saturday.

Chris Tierney: Average Rating - 3.375 (Steve 4, Corey 3, Matty 3.5, Abram 3)

Steve: Needs to be smarter on penalty, but I don't think Nyassi was his man on the second goal...Corey: Usually I am a big Tierney supporter, but I can't be this time. Not after last night...Matty: I think he plays better when we all rag on him. Ever since we started singing his praises his play has slipped a bit...Abram: Nyassi was completely unmarked on the game winning goal. And as much as Nyassi dove in the box, Tierney shouldn't have put his hands on him.

A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 5.875 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6, Matty 6, Abram 6)

Steve: He looked good, but he NEVER should have let himself get turned that easy by Di Vaio on the penalty. Unforgiveable...Corey: Good game. Didn't see anything I didn't like...Matty: Poor kid works so hard for a team mired in mediocrity at the moment...Abram: Not sure what to say about his performance that I haven't already said a dozen times.

Darrius Barnes: Average Rating - 5.625 (Steve 6, Corey 6, Matty 5.5, Abram 5)

Steve: Solid and assured, especially considering the rust he must be feeling...Corey: Also had a good game. Won almost every header by my count. Showed his speed and workrate...Matty: For a guy that hadn't seen too many starts, he seemed to acclimate himself well...Abram: Serviceable performance from a guy who hasn't gotten a whole lot of minutes this year.

Kevin Alston: Average Rating - 4 (Steve 4, Corey 3.5, Matty 4, Abram 4.5)

Steve: Defensively serviceable, offensively abysmal...Corey: Destroyer of attacks...Matty: I'm still ok with him defensively, but he brings almost nothing to the attack...Abram: Better than credited for.

Kelyn Rowe: Average Rating - 4.625 (Steve 4.5, Corey 5, Matty 4.5, Abram 4.5)

Steve: Looked badly off the pace of the game...Corey: Largely invisible, as we've sort of come to expect. Didn't do much on either side of the ball...Matty: Invisible rookie performance...Abram: He played?

Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 7.125 (Steve 7, Corey 7, Matty 7, Abram 7.5)

Steve: Easily best Revolution player on the field, and what a goal...Corey: New game plan from here on out: get the ball to Lee...Matty: Quickly becoming the best attacking option this team has...Abram: The fact that he wasn't named an All-Star is criminal. His third straight Man of the Match performance, and his third incredible goal (or own goal) of the season.

Benny Feilhaber: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5, Abram 4.5)

Steve: Lackluster performance. Very average...Corey: Off-night for Benny. Not nearly as dangerous or as commanding as we need him to be. Needs to step up in a big way. Disappointing night...Matty: Average night for Benny when this team desperately needs him to be more than that...Abram: I know he's a creator, but he also needs to learn to pull the trigger for himself as we.

Clyde Simms: Average Rating - 6.875 (Steve 6.5, Corey 7.5, Matty 7, Abram 6.5)

Steve: Solid in the middle, though he looks less smooth than he used to. Taking him off may have led to the second goal...Corey: My MOTM. Worked his ass off, which is more than I can say for most of his teammates. Clear why he is wearing the captain's armband when Shalrie is out...Matty: Great work rate from Clyde, commanded the midfield on a night where there was very little order...Abram: Same Clyde. Over 90% passing, solid defensively and perhaps his removal for the ineffective Brettschneider probbaly helped lead to the game winning goal.

Ryan Guy: Average Rating - 5.875 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6.5, Matty 5.5, Abram 6)

Steve: Looked sharp in his return...Corey: Good to see Guy back in the lineup. Looked pretty sharp and did well to hold the ball up at time. Also tracked back on defense to cover for whatever Kevin Alston was doing out there. More of him, please...Matty: Glad Ryan got some minutes in this tough 3-game stretch. Did well on the defensive side of the ball also covering for roaming defenders...Abram: Very strong return performance. If Sanna Nyassi received a penalty in the box at one end, shouldn't Guy have been given one as well?

Saer Sene: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 4.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5, Abram 5)

Steve: Should have scored at some point. Depressing that he hasn't figured out that the rest of the league knows he only uses his left...Corey: Liked that he had more space and room to roam, but the Revs couldn't get enough of the ball to make anything happen. Also starting to think he might be something of a one-trick pony...Matty: Nothing spectacular from the Frenchman who's gone a bit quiet in recent weeks. Certainly needs more service and a better partner up top...Abram: Some nice shots later on, but he is still perplexed to be receiving the majority of defensive pressure. Needs to learn to lay the ball off to other people instead of taking 3 or 4 defenders on in the box.

Blake Brettschneider (sub): Average Rating - 3.25 (Steve 3, Corey 2, Matty 4, Abram 4)

Steve: Looked like me in an indoor pickup game, missing balls left and right...Corey: Totally useless. I think this is my lowest rating ever...Matty: Ugh, the bloom is off the rose with Brettschneider. Awful sub, btw...Abram: Not as bad as you would think. I wonder if Bengtson could have put away the awkward rebound that Blake seemed to trip over.

Fernando Cardenas (sub): Average Rating - 4.5 (Steve 4.5, Corey 4.5, Matty 4, Abram 5)

Steve: Lots of energy, did help the Revs look more dangerous, but not enough of an impact...Corey: Running around isn't enough...Matty: Teenager on prom night syndrome continues. All energy, no substance...Abram: Great speed, needs better purpose. That said, he probably should have been the first sub off the bench.

Sainey Nyassi (sub): Average Rating - 3.625 (Steve 3, Corey 3.5, Matty 4, Abram 4)

Steve: Was that Khano Smith?...Corey: Same old Nyassi. Run fast into the right corner. Kick the ball as hard as you can. Hope something happens. It basically never works...Matty: I wanted so badly for him to perform well, but it seems like he's changed absolutely nothing in his game in his long absence...Abram: The good Nyassi was ok, nothing too, too memorable from him.
