After every match this season, the staff here at The Bent Musket will be putting together player ratings. Ratings are on a 1-10 scale, with 5 representing a thoroughly average performance, and 6 a decent/acceptable showing. The final ratings will be averages of individual ratings from Steve Stoehr, Corey Major, Matty Jollie, Abram Chamberlain, and Brendan Schimmel.

Matt Reis: Average Rating - 7.5 (Steve 7.5, Corey 8, Abram 6.5, Brendan 8, Matty 7.5)

Steve: Good saves, did what he had to do with minimal fuss, congrats on 1000 saves...Corey: Great saves, great leadership...Abram: 1,000th career save and seemingly very comfortable playing the ball out of the back to his centerbacks as opposed to just clearing it as quickly as possible...Brendan: I can't think of any reason he doesn't deserve an 8...Matty: Played solid. Wasn't truly tested but answered every question asked.

Kevin Alston: Average Rating - 6 (Steve 6.5, Corey 5.5, Abram 5.5, Brendan 6, Matty 6.5)

Steve: Solid performance defensively, did a couple of things alright on offense but was nothing special overall going forward...Corey: Played much better, especially defensively, but still holding our RM's back...Abram: Perhaps I should suggest he gets traded every week...Brendan: Speed everywhere, played well, better passing. Need more chances created from his efforts though...Matty: Really liking the defensive play of Alston. Great speed and coverage. Shame about the knock.

A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 7 (Steve 7.5, Corey 8, Abram 5.5, Brendan 7, Matty 7)

Steve: Solid in the back, partnered well with Shalrie and kept a good eye on Boyd and Nagbe throughout the match...Corey: Was steady, composed, and sure of himself. Looked like the aj soares we've all been waiting to see this season...Abram: Very solid, quiet performance from him...Brendan: Stud like performance, looked healthy for the first time a while...Matty: Solid, expected performance.

Shalrie Joseph: Average Rating - 7.7 (Steve 9, Corey 7.5, Abram 6.5, Brendan 7.5, Matty 8)

Steve: A commanding performance in the back. Great marking, tackling, athletic in all his plays, and assured in distribution...Corey: Actually had a fantastic game at CB. Wouldnt hate seeing him back there again...Abram: How soon are we going to hear people saying Shalrie should only be used as a CB?...Brendan: Had his body all over any threatening Timber, ability to distribute out the back a great addition...Matty: Man of the Match. He was EVERYWHERE at the back and came up huge several times.

Chris Tierney: Average Rating - 6.2 (Steve 8, Corey 5.5, Abram 5.5, Brendan 5, Matty 6)

Steve: Great delivery on the first goal, several dangerous crosses and set pieces, and very good in defense. A complete performance...Corey: Still needs some work but had a very good game on the whole, particularly vs. Alhassan...Abram: His early cross made all the difference, strong play on the flanks great defensive work...Brendan: Improved from last game still 50% passing rate. That needs to improve. Tackled and lost possession 24 times...Matty: Love his service. Great assist on the goal. Needs to be stronger on the ball.

Ryan Guy: Average Rating - 6.4 (Steve 6.5, Corey 7, Abram 6.5, Brendan 6, Matty 6)

Steve: Was not spectacular but didn't make mistakes, either, contributed going forward and tracking back...Corey: Excellent 90 minutes from Guy. Exactly what i expected. Showed a lot of versatility and intelligence and vision...Abram: Excellent shift as a RB after Alston was injured...Brendan: Seemed to add an extra dimension if stuff came his way, RB versatility helped out well...Matty: Better from him. Looked capable and speedy with a little flair mixed in.

Clyde Simms: Average Rating - 7.4 (Steve 7, Corey 8, Abram 7, Brendan 7.5, Matty 7.5)

Steve: Again, calm and assured, doing the things no one notices. Didn't misplace passes, covered the gaps, did his job and did it well...Corey: Another great match. Clearly our best addition this season...Abram: Most of the time I forget that Simms is even out there, then he does something simple and I remember how valuable he is to this team. Perhaps the early season MVP...Brendan: Plays with great awareness, always seems to be in the gaps that need to filled...Matty: Such a stalwart in midfield. Solid defensively and better distribution.

Kelyn Rowe: Average Rating - 5.7 (Steve 6, Corey 6, Abram 5, Brendan 5.5, Matty 6)

Steve: Effort and desire were there, had a couple of good chances, still looks like the game moves faster than he's ready for...Corey: Played okay but still not quite the stud we saw in preseason. Links up great with Sene...Abram: Missed a clear chance to put the Revs up 2-0, seemed to get muscled off the ball easily, probably heading to the bench on Benny's return, but his quick touch opened up the field for Tierney's cross into Sene...Brendan: Rookie mistake not going to ground on the breakaway on goal...Matty: Should have scored. More aggressive and I like that.

Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 8.1 (Steve 7.5, Corey 8.5, Abram 9, Brendan 8, Matty 7.5)

Steve: If he had tallied a goal or assist, clear MoTM. Livewire on the dribble and good passing, created several chances out of nothing. Gem of a player...Corey: Amazing. Incredible. Fantastic. Great...Abram: I have never given a player rating this high, but Nguyen was incredible. With a few more games like this he may move himself back into the national team picture...Brendan: Once again the most dynamic player on the field. Another performance to make Vancouver regret their decision...Matty: So dynamic, so dangerous. A goal is not too far off for him.

Blake Brettschneider: Average Rating - 4.7 (Steve 5, Corey 4, Abram 4, Brendan 5.5, Matty 5)

Steve: Used his size well, had a couple of good plays linking with Sene and the midfield, but needs to do a little more...Corey: Crappy game. Showed some muscle but nothing more. Disappointment...Abram: He was not as bad as he was in San Jose, but he still killed at least 4 attacks...Brendan: Used to size well, had some good hold up plays. He needs more than one shot...Matty: Having a tough time linking with his teammates. May lack the vision and speed.

Saer Sene: Average Rating - 7.2 (Steve 9, Corey 7, Abram 6.5, Brendan 6.5, Matty 7)

Steve: The Goalscorer, excellent header off the delivery, and also linked well with midfield and had good touches and dribbles. Excellent performance...Corey: looked really sharp, even at less than 100%. Great with the ball at his feet. Good vision. Good chemistry with those around him. Beautiful header for the goal...Abram: First goal of the season, great hold-up play, interested in seeing him play with Moreno...Brendan: Scored early and showed some great touch on a few nice layoffs. More shots please...Matty: Great headed goal, and like his vision when playing his teammates into dangerous areas.

Fernando Cardenas (sub): Average Rating - 6.3 (Steve 6, Corey 7, Abram 6, Brendan 6, Matty 6.5)

Steve: Bundle of energy, some good dribbles, good sub appearance...Corey: Really liked what i saw from him. More of that please...Abram: What a fun cameo he had, combined really well with Nguyen...Brendan: Bringing him on late against a tired defense is a must. Can create something out of nothing...Matty: Super sub. His speed off the bench is almost unfair against tired defenses.

Alec Purdie (sub): Average Rating - 5.5 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6.5, Abram 5, Brendan 5.5, Matty 5)

Steve: Solid debut, made a few dangerous plays but nothing particularly noteworthy...Corey: GREAT sub. Want to see more. Good on the ball. Got in good space. Played well on defense to help out Guy when needed. Great composure...Abram: Decent debut from Purdie...Brendan: Looked composed for a rookie. Not sure what Heaps wanted him to do. Did play way out wide which spread out the D for some late pressing...Matty: Need to see more. Not good, not bad either. Seemed relatively comfortable.
