After every match this season, the staff here at The Bent Musket will be putting together player ratings. Ratings are on a 1-10 scale, with 5 representing a thoroughly average performance, and 6 a decent/acceptable showing. The final ratings will be averages of individual ratings from Steve Stoehr, Corey Major, Matty Jollie, Abram Chamberlain, and Brendan Schimmel.

This week, I will not be contributing ratings. Some things intervened and forced me to post this late, and now I feel I am too far removed from the match to accurately reflect the performances I saw. Luckily, my colleagues contributed theirs in a timely fashion.

Matt Reis: Average Rating - 5 (Corey 6, Abram 4, Matty 5, Brendan 5)

Corey: despite giving up 3 goals, he also made some great plays and some great saves...Abram: too far off his line in several occasions, which lead to some spectacular - if unneeded - saves...Matty: Dazzling saves, often caused by less than stellar positioning. Tall order playing down a man for so long...Brendan: Made the best of a bad situation, pretty steadfast demeanor is an unrealized asset when games get emotional and chaotic. I wish he was more vocal in corralling players back from frustration.

Kevin Alston: Average Rating - 4.25 (Corey 4, Abram 3, Matty 5, Brendan 5)

Corey: still a weak link, but played a bit better in this one defensively...Abram: out of position for the majority of the night...Matty: Still the player that baffles me most. One minute you see all the good things he does, then the next he's making an unnecessary mistake...Brendan: Nothing terrible here. Would like to see some results from his long penetrating runs into the offensive third. Too often do they result in something anti-climactic and non-threatening.

A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 5.125 (Corey 6, Abram 4.5, Matty 4.5, Brendan 5.5)

Corey: had a tall order to fill and was pretty solid throughout...Abram: someday perhaps we'll get to see Soares play a full game, in the correct position, with 11 men on the field...Matty: Poor guy has either been injured or out of position. Another tough night at the office...Brendan: Looked heavy and immobile, his game was noticeably affected by his injury(s). Always a competitor, we just need him competing at 100%.

Stephen McCarthy: Average Rating - 4.667 (Corey 5, Abram 5, Matty 4, Brendan N/A)

Corey: obviously didn't get to see enough of him, though what we did see i thought he played well. The red card was totally not his fault...Abram: a soft red, but by the rules a red nonetheless...Matty: Hand was forced in the penalty decision, but a red card for sure...Brendan: Definitely a yellow card, red card was debatable. That's why he has linesmen. Based on his angle at the time of the ball, head ref should have conferred with the linesman.

Chris Tierney: Average Rating - 4.75 (Corey 5.5, Abram 4, Matty 6, Brendan 3.5)

Corey: i thought he played pretty well in this one. He looks a bit faster up and down the sideline and, as always, provided some good service. Defensively he played a bit better than we may expect from him, I thought. Still not great...Abram: n/a...Matty: Seemed a step quicker? Better positioning, good service. Nice effort...Brendan: Petulant, frustrated and outmatched the entire game. Re-watch the replay of the second goal and watch Tierney.

Benny Feilhaber: Average Rating - 5.625 (Corey 6, Abram 5.5, Matty 5, Brendan 6)

Corey: was back to his usual frustrated ways, barking at the refs and so on. Would have liked to see more from him in this one...Abram: looked frustrated at games end...Matty: Pouty, barking at refs, clearly frustrated. The Benny of 2011...Brendan: Looked fluid at time with the ball, but lacked options. Heaps better get on him quick to prevent his tantrums. Nothing good can come from it.

Shalrie Joseph: Average Rating - 6.25 (Corey 6.5, Abram 6, Matty 6, Brendan 6.5)

Corey: definitely played better in this one than the last outing. Also had to step into the CB role which he was able to do, i thought, rather well...Abram: much better than his debut, which is ironic considering he played most as a makeshift center back...Matty: Good bounce back game. Better energy and pace. Played CB for most part...Brendan: Assumed a heavy load early on in a long game. Still baffled at how easily he was dispossessed at times.

Clyde Simms: Average Rating - 7.375 (Corey 8, Abram 7, Matty 7.5, Brendan 7)

Corey: my man of the match. He was all over the place and made some big plays on both sides of the field...Abram: one of two very bright spots for the Revs...Matty: Man of the Match. Early opinion: best offseason move Revs made...Brendan: Calm, cool and collected, a captain like performance. He was everywhere. Unlike the rest of the team, his game was unaffected by emotion or frustration. Great grab for the Revs.

Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 7 (Corey 7.5, Abram 7, Matty 7, Brendan 6.5)

Corey: looked great out there, clearly has so much talent and i was happy to see 90 minutes of it...Abram: the other bright spot extended his cameo last game into a solid shift and should probably be a penciled in starter for a while...Matty: Very talented. Polished. Dangerous even down a man...Brendan: Great in tight spaces, comfortable on the ball, although limited by lack of support to play off around him.

Kelyn Rowe: Average Rating - 4.75 (Corey 5, Abram 4, Matty 5, Brendan 5)

Corey: still looks like he's got some learning to do. I didn't see anything particularly impressive from him, but can't remember anything terrible either...Abram: the rookie stud from the preseason yet again looked like a rookie...Matty: Rookie growing pains continue. Perfectly in middle. Not great, not terrible...Brendan: Rookie like performance. Overwhelmed by hostile atmosphere and game situation?

Saer Sene: Average Rating - 5.5 (Corey 5, Abram 5.5, Matty 6, Brendan 5.5)

Corey: did not look at 100%, did not look confident in space, but played well with the ball at his feet for the most part. Made one too many poor decisions which I hope to see him improve on. May need a striking partner to be more comfortable...Abram: While gassed at the end, when he had the ball he held up play decently, when he didn't have it he made good runs, would like to see him with 11 players for 90...Matty: Tough to play striker with 10 men. Good hold up play, some questionable decision making...Brendan: Nothing great, but then again nothing expected based on game situation.

Ryan Guy (sub): Average Rating - 6.375 (Corey 7, Abram 6, Matty 6, Brendan 6.5)

Corey: great sub to bring on, played with a lot of heart and a lot of leadership. Found himself in good space offensively and played defense well when needed...Abram: very good use of Guy as a substitute...Matty: Good energy on as a sub. Stepped up and showed a little leadership by example...Brendan: Good spark off the bench. Needs to do better with chances he created.

Diego Fagundez (sub): Average Rating - 5 (Corey 6, Abram 5, Matty 4.5, Brendan 4.5)

Corey: didn't provide the spark that I hoped, but breathed a little life into the attack nevertheless. Showed a lot of determination but the game too far gone...Abram: game was out of reach when Diego made his entrance...Matty: Much ado about nothing. Game was over when he came on...Brendan: Rarely got the ball. How did no one run over to Seth Sinovic after he pushed Diego? Protect your own.

Jeremiah White (sub): Average Rating - 3.5 (Corey 3, Abram 3, Matty 4, Brendan 4)

Corey: looked completely out of sync. Period...Abram: game was out of reach, but unlike Diego, White looked lost in his Revs debut...Matty: Speaking of nothing, White looked like a complete stranger out there. Lost...Brendan: Bad fundamentals. Poor runs, poor passing. Noticeably out of sync.
