As a follow-up to Saturday night's Salute To Heroes celebration and memorial, the New England Revolution will be launching an online auction tomorrow at biddingforgood.com to raise money for the 9/11 Memorial Fund. The Fund supports the ongoing development, operation and maintenance of the new "Reflecting Absence" memorial at Ground Zero that was dedicated this past Sunday.
Up for auction are autographed and game-worn jerseys from Matt Reis, Shalrie Joseph and Benny Feilhaber, as well as the 9/11 armbands they wore on Saturday, also autographed. Winners will also receive a photo of the player wearing both during the match.
For those of you who are curious, yes, that means Matt's "Barney jersey" is one of the items. I understand the purple kit has taken on almost legendary status since Saturday and, in all fairness, I was a huge fan, too. Unfortunately, it appears this will be the only time he prowls the pipes in the color of everyone's favorite dinosaur. The press release specifically mentions that Saturday was the first and only time he's worn it, as if to say he never will again. Let us all hope that isn't the case.
Anyways, the auction runs through Wednesday, September 21st, so you'll have plenty of time to break the piggy bank, check under the couch cushions and possibly knock off a liquor store or two to get the money together and win a bid.
