The New England Revolution begin play in the Desert Diamond Cup tonight as they challenge Real Salt Lake in the tournament's opener. The game will be streamed online, giving fans a full view of their club ahead of the MLS season.
This will be the second time this preseason that these two teams have met. On Jan. 31, 2014, the Revs topped RSL 2-1 in an 80-minute scrimmage. On that day, Charlie Davies and Sean Okoli found the back of the net while RSL's Sebastian Jaime prevented the shutout.
Tonight's affair could be different as both teams are looking to move beyond the fitness stage since the regular season is in sight. Real Salt Lake will open 2015 with a visit to the Portland Timbers while the Revs play their inaugural game against the Seattle Sounders on Mar. 8.
From a Revolution perspective, tonight's game is important because head coach Jay Heaps will want to create familiarity along the back line and in the attack. Andrew Farrell's move centrally to pair with Jose Goncalves is all but confirmed, but who will be the team's starting right back? Offensively, Heaps will need to determine how to effectively use all of his weapons, including incumbent Davies and "newcomer" Juan Agudelo.
Join us tonight as we discuss all the action of RSL vs. the Revolution.
