Revolution 0-2 United: Player Ratings and Man of the Match

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

The Revolution lost a dull match to D.C. United on Saturday night. There weren't too many standout performers, but a few players acquitted themselves well in the defeat.

Bobby Shuttleworth: Average Rating - 4.67 (Steve 4.5, Corey 4, Nick 5.5)

Steve: So close to getting a positive rating until that goal. I mean he had it...Corey: That Rolfe goal was exactly why Brad should be in net...Nick: Kept the Revs alive until injury time, when he should've parried Rolfe's finish wide. Left his line perfectly - and took a flawless angle - on his 1v1 with Johnson.

Chris Tierney: Average Rating - 5.17 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5, Nick 5)

Steve: Solid defensive shift. Set-piece deliveries still a problem, but his open-play crossing was money...Corey: Steady defensively but his dead ball delivery is a big problem...Nick: Service on set pieces has disappeared, but 1v1 defending improved following a tough outing in San Jose.

Jose Goncalves: Average Rating - 4.17 (Steve 4, Corey 4.5, Nick 4)

Steve: Own goal. And what a terrible one at that. Nearly gave one away to Arnaud early, too...Corey: Own goals hurt no matter who commits them. Clunky night from the captain. No communication...Nick: all season long, JoGo has taken entirely too many dangerous touches in the back. Seemed too content lofting the ball forward. And, the own goal. Tough evening.

A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 5.5 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5, Nick 6)

Steve: I want to rate him higher but he's just such a bad passer lately. Colossus in defense, though...Corey: His aerial clearances were on point and he helped keep the backline in a constant offside trap for both Espindola and Johnson...Nick: Misplayed a dangerous second half opportunity, but otherwise offered more of the same: strong defending, on-point marking and tidy clearances.

Andrew Farrell: Average Rating - 6.33 (Steve 6, Corey 6, Nick 7)

Steve: One of his best nights passing, and actually had a successful cross. Good outing defensively, too...Corey: Good night but leaves me wishing he had a better crossing instinct...Nick: Another strong match from the versatile RB. Adds depth to the attack and moves down the flank with purpose. If only he had the foot to play in crosses, too.

Andy Dorman: Average Rating - 4.83 (Steve 5, Corey 4, Nick 5.5)

Steve: What you know about 90% accuracy on 60 passes? Didn't have the same calming effect, early yellow clearly mellowed him...Corey: His passing wasn't as great or influential in the second half and he just didn't have the same influence as we have come to expect. That said, still a steady presence in front of the defense which is, arguably, most important...Nick: Showed creativity with a handful of attacking ideas and filled his usual aggressive hole in the middle. Struggled to maintain assertive play in the second 45.

Saer Sene: Average Rating - 3.67 (Steve 3.5, Corey 3, Nick 4.5)

Steve: Gotta give him credit for being willing to shoot, touches were good, but his shooting itself was woeful...Corey: The weakest link, but at least someone is shooting...Nick: Maintained possession in the attacking third and contributed to several promising opportunities. Unfortunately, his finishing missed the mark, which hurt the Revs in the early stages.

Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 4.5, Corey 5.5, Nick 5)

Steve: Passing wasn't clean enough tonight, not aggressive enough in the final third, lax in defense...Corey: Had ideas but they weren't enough...Nick: Down match for the weekly MotM candidate. Creative engine seemed to be working, but execution did not. Looking forward to his role beside a healthy Kelyn Rowe.

Daigo Kobayashi: Average Rating - 4.33 (Steve 5.5, Corey 4, Nick 3.5)

Steve: Tidy passing (84%) with a couple of good moves, but not enough aggression or ideas in the final third to really make it work...Corey: Was too quiet when we needed more punch and creativity from the midfield...Nick: Clean passing night, but had far too few opportunities to build out of the middle. Disappeared for long stretches of both halves.

Diego Fagundez: Average Rating - 3.5 (Steve 4, Corey 3, Nick 3.5)

Steve: The shot was great to see, as was the bike, but the fact is he had too few touches, passing was sloppy, and lost the ball too often...Corey: Oh, he was playing? Could have fooled me. No, but, really, this season he's not quite the prodigy we thought we were seeing last season. His touches in the final third are an issue. Might benefit from some time on the bench perhaps...Nick: Aside from a handful of creative ideas, Diego seemed absent yet again. Have yet to see the aggressive, deep runs that produced a breakout year in 2013.

Teal Bunbury: Average Rating - 3.17 (Steve 3.5, Corey 3, Nick 3)

Steve: Passing not all that bad, took decent care of the ball, and at least took shots, but he just does not look dangerous...Corey: Five games is all I need to know that he's not working out...Nick: possessed the ball well in the attacking third, but finishing needs an overhaul. Five matches, no goals.

Charlie Davies (sub): Average Rating - 3.83 (Steve 4, Corey 3.5, Nick 4)

Steve: Not the same effect as last week. Didn't get the same touches. Yellow card was unfair on him though...Corey: Did not have the same spark that we saw last week...Nick: Didn't have the opportunity to replicate his promising debut. Disagree with the yellow, but hope he strays from his diving days in D.C.
