On Atlanta, the Revs, and stadium snark

With the announcement of Atlanta MLS we have seen a return of the MLS snark patrol. It seems I cant watch an interview, read a tweet, or read an article without the Revs being the butt of every MLS joke. Once a new team is brought in using a football stadium everyones mind turns to the Revs. To MLS fans, the Revs are Meg from family guy. Everyone forgets we are here, unless its time to make fun. To make matters worse MLS apologists and Commish Don Garber himself are quick to state that the new Atlanta team is not similar to the Revs situation. The Atlanta Stadium is downtown, it has downsizing technology, the owner is committed to no football lines during MLS games. It seems even when a new team can be the butt of a joke (at the expense of the revs), the Revs faithful are quickly reminded that we are now the basement of major league soccer. For years we could at least say "hey at least we arent chivas", well that ship has sailed...now the other fan bases can say at least we arent New England.

To be honest, they are right to snark. There hasnt been a single new stadium development since we discovered that the City of Revere failed to grab wonderland from suffolk downs. Besides the baseless wordpress rumor of the Krafts in Somerville, there has been nothing. Not a single real rumor. The only statements which are the same company line that has been given for years. Its as if the team president carries an index card to read at the beginning of every interview. The fact is the insults against the Revs are getting stronger. The Boston Magazine article was featured on Felger and Mazz and it was the first real press the Revs have gotten from the Boston sports media in years. Since the Boston Magazine Article the Kraft group has done nothing to improve it's image among Revs fans.

This nightmare is long and dark and there are no signs of awakening. No amount of new turf and goal nets can cover up the sad reality that the Krafts could not care less to respond to criticism about the Revolution.

Doesnt change my support of the team, just a depressing reality that I am committed to existing in.

Lets Go Revs.
