Remember two years ago when Heaps was named the next New England Revolution head coach? Remember the surprise that accompanied that announcement? Many people, myself included, thought that this was just a sign as to how little Kraft cared and how stupid and incompetent the FO truly was.
I am happy to have been wrong.
New England is now in the midst of a playoff battle with a real chance of playing in November again. Rowe, Sene, Agudelo, and Nguyen - to name a few - have graced the Revolution blue. The academy system is starting to produce stars, with more to come. Incoming players have been surprisingly good, and Burns is looking more like a real GM, rather than someone who has no idea how to evaluate talent.
Two years ago we wanted the playoffs this year or Heaps' head. Now, even without the playoffs, Heaps should feel comfortable with his job security. This is the best Revolution team I have ever seen play (I started watching in 2009 so the glory days are lost on me). The squad has gelled, there is a style to the play again and it is actually fun to watch the games again. I attribute this to Heaps and Burns. I believe in Heaps and Burns, and even if the Revs are not playing in November this duo needs to be back in charge come next year.
