The New England Revolution continue their 2013 Desert Diamond Cup campaign on Wednesday, facing Real Salt Lake in Tucson. The Revs' last performance was a spirited and effective 3-1 win over New York, in which they scored their first goals from the run of play this preseason.
Jay Heaps' choice of lineup is interesting on a number of levels. Lee Nguyen is starting in a withdrawn forward role, for one. Also, this marks the first time in the DDC that Heaps has put out a starting midfield that didn't feature both Cisse and Simms, who are both similar holding players. Rookie Scott Caldwell gets the start over Simms.
Later in the match, keep a look out for new training camp invitees Cameron Brown and Nermin Crnkic, who will probably see time in the second half, if at all. Both are young, left-footed midfielders who are purported to have boatloads of technical ability.
Lineups
Revolution: Bobby Shuttleworth; Kevin Alston, Jose Goncalves, Stephen McCarthy, Andrew Farrell; Donnie Smith, Scott Caldwell, Kalifa Cisse, Kelyn Rowe, Lee Nguyen; Jerry Bengtson
RSL: Josh Saunders; Rich Balchan, Aaron Maund, Carlos Salcedo, Lovel Palmer; Yordany Alvarez, Cole Grossman, Enzo Martinez, Sebastian Velasquez; Devon Sandoval, David Viana
