MLS SuperDraft 2013: Revolution Trade For #1 Pick

Greg M. Cooper-US PRESSWIRE

In a surprise move, the New England Revolution have sent the #4 pick and allocation money to Toronto FC in exchange for the #1 pick in Thursday's SuperDraft. The pick will be the highest the Revs have held in the franchise's history.

We all knew that trading picks was a possibility this week, especially with the New England Revolution holding a commodity like the fourth pick. A high draft pick is always an attractive bargaining chip. Really, though, if anyone would have been willing to put money down that the Revs would not only deal their first-round pick, but deal it to Toronto for the number one pick in the draft, surely most Revs fans would have called them crazy.

It isn't crazy; it's reality. The Revolution have sent the fourth pick and an undisclosed amount of allocation money to Toronto in exchange for Thursday's number-one selection in the SuperDraft. The pick will be the highest in franchise history, surpassing the previous high of number two in 2002 - the pick used to select Taylor Twellman.

In our previous mock draft, we projected the Revs to take VCU forward Jason Johnson with the number four pick; now, all bets are off. This position in the draft leaves the Revolution poised to take any of the highest prospects in the draft, and while Johnson is among them, he isn't likely to be the first.

SportsCenter will be televising the first pick tomorrow at noon, and SB Nation Soccer will also be streaming the draft live.
