After every match this season, the staff here at The Bent Musket will be putting together player ratings. Ratings are on a 1-10 scale, with 5 representing a thoroughly average performance, and 6 a decent/capable showing. The final ratings will be averages of individual ratings from Steve Stoehr, Matty Jollie, and Abram Chamberlain. Brendan Schimmel is sitting out due to his Rebellion commitments.
Matt Reis: Average Rating - 4.5 (Steve 4.5, Corey 4.5, Matty 4.5, Abram 4.5)
Steve: Awful on the second goal, communication issues with Soares throughout. Still not terrible, though...Corey: I have to go below average here, mostly for that second goal...Matty: Never challenged, and once again comes off the line and comes up empty, resulting in a goal...Abram: Poor game, way too far off the line a few times, partially at fault for first goal.
Chris Tierney: Average Rating - 5.75 (Steve 6, Corey 6, Matty 5, Abram 6)
Steve: Service was excellent, defensively sound in the face of a potent attack...Corey: Solid game. Provided some really good service, had some good moments on defense. In general, really finding his rhythm lately, I think...Matty: Service was decent, but got fleeced more than once defensively when dealing with the speedy Seattle attack...Abram: Good service, learning to compensate for his faults with smart play.
A.J. Soares: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 4.5, Corey 5, Matty 5.5, Abram 5)
Steve: Partial fault for the second goal, poor communication with Reis becoming an issue...Corey: Not a very good game from AJ. Not bad, but I think we all expect a lot more...Matty: Got out-physicalled and out-jumped by Johnson most of the night. Communication problems with Reis becoming an issue...Abram: Maybe expectations are too high, but the guy has got to do better.
Stephen McCarthy: Average Rating - 6 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6.5, Matty 6, Abram 6)
Steve: Imperious in the back, love the fight in him...Corey: Excellent game from the big guy. I can really only think of one mistake/poor decision...Matty: Officially on the bandwagon. Another good game from Macca, great chase down and tackle on Johnson in the box and I loved him popping right up and yelling at EJ...Abram: Nice play throughout.
Florian Lechner: Average Rating - 4.75 (Steve 4, Corey 5.5, Matty 4.5, Abram 5)
Steve: Giveaway caused the first goal, slack marking contributed to the second. Still, Saer Sene's not exactly the best defensive partner on the flank, either...Corey: Meh. He was decent. Offered a lot more in the attack, but his turnovers were costly. Can we just fuse him and Alston? Please?...Matty: Would have liked to have seen a better follow up performance from him after TFC...Abram: A very Alston-like performance, minus the speed but with better positional awareness. Not bad, not great, very average for Flo.
Clyde Simms: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5, Corey 5, Matty 5, Abram 5)
Steve: Passing not up to his usual snuff, but still good, solid defensively...Corey: Did not look to be 100%. Looked a bit rusty at times. Passing wasn't as pristine as it usually is...Matty: More of the same from Simms, but still looking a step slower than the beginning of the season...Abram: Solid, if unspectacular performance.
Shalrie Joseph: Average Rating - 5.5 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 5.5, Abram 5.5)
Steve: The metronome in midfield, dictating pace and keeping the tempo even...Corey: Didn't have a fabulous game, but it was good enough. Got physical when he needed to be. Helped out on defense plenty...Matty: Good showing from the captain. Beginning to think the team can't play with both Shalrie and Simms in the middle. Too clogged, not enough imagination...Abram: Played better once Simms was taken off.
Benny Feilhaber: Average Rating - 5.625 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6, Matty 5, Abram 6)
Steve: Major offensive catalyst, did some decent defensive work, too...Corey: Really good game. Such a catalyst for our offense. Even made some crucial plays on defense...Matty: Benny was all over the place, tracked well on defense and made a few nice runs. He got the snot beat out of him out there tonight and he kept coming back for more...Abram: Could have been higher, but tended to drift out of the game when he didn't get calls (even though he should have had a penalty shot).
Lee Nguyen: Average Rating - 5.625 (Steve 6, Corey 6, Matty 4.5, Abram 6)
Steve: Critical to several dangerous attacks, understanding with Tierney is almost telepathic...Corey: At times it seemed like the game plan was to pass out of the back and then get the ball to Lee. The dude makes things happen. So crucial to this team...Matty: Here's my problem with Lee lately: he's almost as right-footed as Sene is left-footed. He plays the left flank but NEVER uses his left foot to cross. He's always cutting back inside and defenses are figuring it out...Abram: No fear taking on opponents, needs to take risks with some shots, much better staying on his feet.
Saer Sene: Average Rating - 5 (Steve 5, Corey 4, Matty 6, Abram 5)
Steve: He scored, but he missed too many sitters. Looked decent on the right...Corey: Sene had, in my eyes, perhaps his worst game of the year. Missed some GOLDEN opportunities, which happens too frequently. And he was off-side on the goal. Feels like there may be an ego problem going on?...Matty: He's only a six because he scored a tap in goal that shouldn't have counted anyway. Missed two sitters and was absolutely useless playing deeper in the center midfield. He's a striker. Put him in the box...Abram: Forwards score goals, Sene did. Great forwards put away easy opportunities, Sene missed two. Not used to being the focal point of defenses.
Blake Brettschneider: Average Rating - 5.125 (Steve 5.5, Corey 6, Matty 4.5, Abram 4.5)
Steve: Had a strong first half, but faded and became a liability in time...Corey: Actually think he had a really nice game. Did the dirty work. Held up the ball a lot. Such a good work-rate. The Revs will be wise to hang onto him for a while. He's a project that will really pay off down the line...Matty: Disappointing from Blake. Runs weren't smart, hold up play wasn't as good. Looked a little out of sorts...Abram: Not great with back to goal, which is his role in this system.
Kelyn Rowe (sub): Average Rating - 5.375 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5, Matty 5, Abram 6)
Steve: Pushed the game when he came on, Revs needed his spark...Corey: Provided a little bit of a spark here and there but was average on the whole...Matty: Nothing special from the rookie. Got beat up pretty good for his efforts though...Abram: Huge spark, excelled going at the Seattle defense, opened the game up.
Fernando Cardenas (sub): Average Rating - 6 (Steve 5.5, Corey 5.5, Matty 6, Abram 7)
Steve: Came on sloppy, finished a superstar. Great cross, good dribbling...Corey: Really sloppy when he first came in. Settled after a while and was a good person to have out there when the Revs just needed to throw bodies at the back-line to disrupt them...Matty: Super sub strikes again bringing pace, dynamic play to the outside. Nice cross on the game tying goal...Abram: Created the game-winning-goal, fearless.
Diego Fagundez (sub): Average Rating - 6.375 (Steve 6, Corey 7, Matty 6, Abram 6.5)
Steve: The scorer and the savior, nothing else need be said...Corey: May have only been in the game for about 12 minutes or so, but he clearly made the biggest impact out of anyone. Obviously the MOTM...Matty: Nice goal. Looks a little stronger, always seems to be in the right spot. Good soccer instincts...Abram: Short sting, but scored. What more can you ask for in under 15 minutes of play from the kid? Prepare for the re-overhyping of Diego.
