It's a question that's being asked: Why is Assembly Square a better site for a potential Revolution SSS than Wonderland? Both certainly have their merits, but here's the case for the Somerville site:
Here's a quick rationale:
- Assembly Sq. is directly accessed by vehicles via I-93, the major north-south highway servicing the greater Boston area. Wonderland is accessed by Route 1A, which requires a bit more routing off of major highways such as Route 1 or I-90 (which has tolls).
- Assembly Sq. will have its own Orange Line stop on the T, 3 stops from North Station, 5 from Gov't Center. Wonderland is at the terminus of the Blue Line, 10 stops from Gov't Center.
- Assembly Sq. is significantly closer to the heart of downtown Boston, increasing not only its perceived visibility but also its inclusion in the Boston sports market.
Editor's note: Anyone else agree with Weber King about this? Is Somerville a better location than Revere? Are we forgetting about North Shore Revs fans who are marginalized even now by the Foxboro location? Let us know in the comments!
