The Revolution 2012 Regular Season Schedule Has Arrived

Today Major League Soccer released its 2012 regular season schedule. Per MLS's new conference-focused schedule format, this season the Revolution will play each of its Eastern Conference opponents at least twice (Houston and Toronto), and the rest they will meet three times. The Revs will play two away games against Sporting Kansas City, DC United, the Montreal Impact, and the Philadelphia Union and two home games against the Chicago Fire, the Columbus Crew, and the New York Red Bulls.

Jay Heaps will certainly have his work cut out for him as the Revolution will play 4 of their first 5 games of the season away. But luckily, the Revs will only travel to the west coast twice this year, and both journeys are within the first 4 games. The Revs end their season with 8 games against Eastern Conference opponents.

As for national broadcast games, the Revolution will only have 4 this season, none of which will be on ESPN. Three games will be on the new NBC Sports Network-all three away-against LA, New York, and Philadelphia. The fourth broadcast will be home against New York on Galavision.

You can peep the full Revs schedule after the jump.

Far from being good

This is not a great schedule at all for the home fan. No LA. No Dallas. No Salt Lake

At least we get 2 NY. But also 2 Chicago and 2 Columbus.

This unbalanced shedule is understandable from a travel point of view but it stinks from a sport point of view. It is better if you are on the west coast.

My only hope is that without the seat fillers like LA, the attendance number will be so bad it will force the FO to do something positive for the competitivity of the team.

Amen

Still, lower travel miles is HUGE. Midseason fatigue will be much less of a factor.

Yeah

Imagine low travel miles combined with better conditioning training and (fingers crossed/knock on wood) better new players! I think attendance won’t be that much of a problem. A lot of people showed up for the RBNY game and the Seattle game last year (I know the Seattle game was college and high school night but still!) If the attendance slips (and it probably will because of angry fans leaving because of the two terrible years that were ‘10 and ’11) it will hopefully light some type of fire under Kraft’s and Burn’s asses to make some improvements like mid-season signings if needed, etc.

Hope Springs Eternal .....

I guess that what they will have to do. To get any kind of attendance, they will need to give away the tickets like for the HS and College night. Other than NY, Seattle is probably the highlight game (Based on last year playing style).
They will try also to pad the attendance with town soccer club and have them show up with their mom (who will spend 90% of the game make sure that everyone has enough food and drinks (Ka-ching!) and dad (who will be listening to the ball and stick guys eating chicken and drinking beer in the duggout).
Yep, this season home game will have another great atmosphere in the Dead Cave of Foxboro!

By the way, training camp is 10 days away and we have 15 guys on the roster. Once again, the F.O. is really trying to put all the chances they can on their side to succeed. NOT!

Considering that it takes about 3 months of play for a player to adapt, any signing past February will peak once the season is a total waste.

Time is running out, F.O. Complete your roster and go with it.

Second note: I feel awful for Heaps. He starts the season with 4 out of 5 away game and his roster won’t be final until probably May.

Third note: I got the STH email and they were promoting the superdraft by showing off the #1 picks. We had 2011 Soares (good pick, needs to confirm in 2012 but still miles from Parkhurst), 2009 Alston (not the best promotion considering the guy still cannot play right back at MLS level) and …. drum roll 2010 – Schilawski. Probably the worst strikers in the past 2 years and it was not good years. Talk about about a bust and yet he is still on the roster (as is Boggs, another waste of a spot). To give them credit, I do not think that there is much talent these days coming out of the draft. I think it is another stupid attempt from MLS to copy the other sports and have a draft. Talent will be homegrown (academies anyone) and by 18, you are on your way or never. If you have to wait 22 to be picked, you will never be that good (for the great majority).
Just look at talent is developed in Europe and you understand that it is very rare for a player (other than GK) to start his pro career at 22. A lot of the academy guys never make the pro teams and are out by 20.

I think the academy program can really help the level of football in the MLS and at one point, people will realize the joke that the superdraft is. This is not the NFL or the NBA guys …… although I forgive you for forgetting considering that the league is run by an NFL guy who knows and cares about the Beautiful Game as much as I care about horse racing competition.
