Draft Day 2012: Your MLS Super Draft Live Thread!

Commisioner Garber is mere minutes away from approaching the podium for the first time!

The day has finally arrived. Coaches, General Managers, Owners, and PR battalions all across Major League Soccer have descended upon Kansas City in hopes of landing the next big name in American soccer. This year's draft has a particularly heightened importance and buzz around New England, given the Revolution's #3 overall pick in this afternoon's draft, and with several holes to fill, it's clear that the 2012 MLS Super Draft has huge implications on the birth of the new Revs regime. Today's selection will be the highest the Revs have had since New England drafted Taylor Twellman at #2, and we all know how that worked out.

We've been profiling a few of the players here on TBM that have stayed atop mock draft boards across the country, so expect to see a few familiar names this afternoon once the draft gets going. The rumor mill has swirled relatively quietly amongst the masses in Kansas City, but it wouldn't be an MLS Super Draft without some drama. After the jump, we get you caught up on the official draft order, and get you set up for all the action!

Star-divide

Quite frankly, it's almost a foregone conclusion that Akron forward Darren Mattocks and Duke defender Andrew Wenger are going 1-2 respectively, so in all actuality it seems most of the excitement will begin with us at #3. Where will the Revs go? This first selection will be incredibly indicative of the direction of this franchise under new head coach, Jay Heaps. All of the action starts at 12PM EST, and here's how the draft order will work out (we will fill in the selections as they happen):

but the Revs effed this one up i think…

….maybe we can trade him?

Rose colored glasses...

We have a sincere lack of offensive creativity. I don’t hate the pick. I’m not over stating this: this kid is VERY, VERY good.

He's got talent

But I heard he got benched at one point because he got a big ego and complacent. That worries me.

4-5-1

Given the fact that we allergic to siging forwards or re-signing them, may be Heaps will go 4-5-1 or 3-6-1. Heck with all the midfielders we have, I say let’s do a 1-8-1 formation!

Relax everyone. This is only the draft. We have not a great pick since Twellman and Parkhurst. No offense meant to Soares but he is not there yet.

Dwyer isn’t bad…but I like Jumper

Hard to let a GA player slip if you’re an expansion club.
