New England Revolution vs. Philadelphia Union: Live Game Thread
Welcome to the New England Revolution vs. Philadelphia Union live game thread! Tonight will be the Revs' first match in 17 days as they play the fixture that was originally postponed due to hurricane conditions two weekends ago.
I won't bother with much in terms of preliminaries since the Revs - Union preview was just put up earlier today, except to say that Monsef Zerka is making his full Revolution debut on the right side of midfield. He's had two solid weeks to get on the same page with his teammates, so let's hope he hits the ground running. Also, Kheli Dube is on the substitute bench, I believe for the first time since the car accident that put him away with whiplash for the last couple of months. Good to know he'll be all right.
Lineups and your comments after the jump.
Lineups
Revolution: Reis; Alston, Cochrane, Soares, Barnes; Zerka, Feilhaber, Joseph, Tierney; Lekic, Caraglio
Bench: Shuttleworth, Coria, Dube, Guy, Fagundez, Schilawski, Phelan
Union: MacMath; Williams, Valdes, Califf, G. Farfan; Adu, Miglioranzi, Carroll, Torres; Paunovic, Le Toux
Bench: Holder, M. Farfan, Nakazawa, Mwanga, McInerney, Mapp, Okugo

Zerka on the right
This could be the start of a new era. Or another horrible mistake. Tonight, I choose to be optimistic for at least the first 15 minutes.

Also
I’m choosing to be optimistic about the Union’s recent terrible run of form. I think we really have a shot at putting on a decent show tonight.

Good little opening sequence there
Very good, decent passing, a bit of luck after Zerka loses it. That’s good stuff, that’s what’s needed.

And right as I say that
Two great chances for Philly, defense totally asleep

Some great work from Zerka
Wily vet, loses out for pace but still wins the ball with experience. Then Farfan steps on his heel.

A.J.SOARES!!!!
What a FREAKING BALL from Tierney, and a THUNDEROUS header from Soares!!!

Some really good passing here
Let’s hope the Revs can keep it moving all match

Union still getting a lot of chances
Not a big fan of that. Need to be more defensively sound.

Penalty!?
Looked a lot like the penalty called against DC in the beginning of the season when Phelan was fouled. Like to see a replay.

Cheeky
BUT A GOAL! Excellently struck from Lekic!!!!

knocked right back down to reality. great goal there.

Good strike from Torres
Let’s see if they can hold on

BENNY!
4-1!!! Lekic is really doing his part up top (tonight), even if it’s different than what we originally brought him in to do
A goal and an assist
I’ll take that any day of the week!

This is freakin' crazy
WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL SEASON?
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
if only we always had 17 days between games!!

All I worry for now
Is a second-half letdown. The Revs have to at least stay awake for 45 more minutes.
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
Oh no
That hurts. Shalrie might be done for today. Some fun little bending went on in his leg on that challenge.
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
yeah that wasn’t pretty. glad to see him walk it off though.

Get up, Monsef
That wasn’t a foul, you fell asleep and he stepped in well.
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
WOW
Philly apparently has had 62% possession so far in this match. Certainly hasn’t felt like it.

Mwanga is on
I think the Union offense just got a bunch more dangerous
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
i’m going to just punch a hole in my wall now and get it over with

Can you blame him?
This has killed the Revs for the last two months. You don’t need to make defensive subs in the 56th freaking minute.
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
don't blame him whatsoever
if anything, i’m glad to see it. but, honestly, Caraglio seemed to be the quieter striker this game, why not take him off instead if Nicol insists on making the defensive sub?

holy crap, did i just say “keep Lekic on”? what is happening?
by Corey E. Major on Sep 7, 2011 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Here it comes
Starting the defensive subs in the 56th minute. I don’t care if we’re up 2.

...and this is where it goes south
I’m not a fan of Phelan at all….never have, never will.
I think he can do a job
He’s an effective destroyer in midfield and has come along considerably in terms of passing acumen, but he’s not a starter by any stretch and was introduced too soon in this match.

This is bad
Philly is straight outworking the Revs right now. Kind of embarrassing.
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
I don't know
It didn’t look too bad, no real good angles
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
looked like two dudes pulling shirts to me. but you’re right, no good angles really.

This is what happens when you pull into your shell
You give up goals, end up in a bad spot without the tools to keep attacking. This is how these games are lost and points are dropped.
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
Seven minutes stoppage
Had to happen thanks to the injury
Founder and Editor of The Bent Musket on SBNation
i play pick up games with old fat dudes who would have had that one in the net

Oh man.
As an RSL fan, I saw the Revs lose that lead at Rio Tinto and thought how gutting it must have been. But for it to happen again… that’s gotta be tough/
It's like the tenth time this year
And something like the fifth in a row now. Somehow, though, it gets no less difficult to deal with…
