Thanks for the memories S.Nicol

It's been a fun ride the past 10 years with Steve Nicol as coach of the Revolution, but now that ride looks like it's about to come to an end. Just like all good things that come to pass the time is right for a coaching change. Now let's just pretend that Krafty Bob pulls his head out of the Cape Cod beach sand and wants to make some changes to the Revs. Here's what I would suggest.

First things first: It's definitely not all Nicol's fault, so he shouldn't go down alone - and Kraft can't fire himself (I wish he could) - but he can fire the coach and while he's at it get rid of Bilello and Burns, too. The time is now to rebuild. I know that no one likes to hear the word "rebuild" but we have no other choice. Now is the time to inject new blood in this team. With the recent news of Marko Perovic's season ending injury the 2011 version of the Revs are going nowhere. Doesn't matter how many washed up Euros they get, this season is hopeless and the fans have had enough. Let's blow this team up!

When Jurgen Klinsmann was hired by Toronto FC as a consultant the first move he made was to hire former Dutch international Aron Winter as the head coach. His next move is the one that interests me he hired someone that is familiar to Revs fans as Toronto's technical director. That man is Paul Mariner. You see we had the wrong guy as the coach all those years. He was standing there on the sideline right in front of us (whispering tips in Nicol's ear during the glory years) and we let him walk away. The results back up what Mariner meant to the Revs; since he left for Plymouth Argyle on 10/18/09 the Revs record is 12 wins 22 losses and 9 draws.

Mariner was the one with an eye for talent in the draft (he did it again this year with Joao Plata), the technical know-how on attacking soccer and the ability to work with young players. In a nutshell, he is the guy who could rebuild this team, not Nicol, and frankly Mariner is the only guy who (might) want take this job at the moment (college coaches are not going to cut it). After ten plus years with Nicol as coach and no MLS cups and four defeats in the final game he needs to be held accountable by the owner of this team.
