Revolution Unveil New Kits

The Revolution unveiled their new kits for the 2012-2013 seasons Saturday night at the Gillette Stadium Pro Shop. The jerseys feature a deliberate lack of silver and a return to the inclusion of red as well as the new addition of the flag of New England displayed prominently and proudly on the back of the jerseys just under the collar.

In attendance tonight to show off the new digs were Chris Tierney, heartthrob Diego Fagundez, Matt Reis, and newly contracted captain Shalrie Joseph who, as announced just before the unveiling, will count as a Revolution Designated Player for the upcoming 2012 season.

You can catch all the action from tonight's unveiling event in the video below, courtesy of the Revs' website:

The new jerseys can be purchased at the Gillette Stadium Pro Shop or online at the Revolution website. And you can see them in action at the Revs' 2012 home opener on March 24th at Gillette Stadium.

Let us know what you think of the new kits in the comments section below.

Now if only they could make some more changes...

For example, some new (high quality) players thanks to more spending from the cheap Krafts..we can only hope.

Horrid

Wonders if it’s 1996 all over again…

Given how bad the rest of the league was

The Revs’ ‘96 kits weren’t half bad.

I really like them!

I agree with Tierney, I hope the NE flag becomes more of a symbol of the team!

Also, I agree with Reis. Maybe, seeing how this jersey is something the fans and players collectively like, it is a sign that the past is behind us and the Revs can now not only become an MLS Cup winning team, but a better, more successful, and popular organization that people want to support and players want to play for! I know it’s just a jersey and not drastically different from past kits but things like these do help team morale.

I love the NE flag concept

I think they’ll find better ways to integrate it in future kits, but it should be involved in every uniform this team wears.

I'm slightly disappointed

I thought it would be a good idea to take bigger risks with the away kits and/or unveil a third kit, but it seems the organization stayed true to form and made the away shirt a cookie-cutter color change of the home jersey.

Overall, though, I like it. It’s a bit louder than the understated, boring kits of the last two seasons and gets some more red in there, which has been so absent recently that I think people forget it’s actually a team color.

I actually really like the away jersey

Almost every team in the league seems to have a boring, white away jersey. Ours isn’t much better – but I think the red sides give the white away jersey a much more distinct look.

But maybe my expectations are just really low.

As far as the home jersey – so glad that almost all of the Patriots silver is gone. I like this red, and I like that we don’t have shoulder pads anymore. I think it’ll still take some time to get a jersey that really looks classic, that the team can build on for years to come, but I feel like this is on the right track – incorporating the Adidas stripes into a red-and-white stripes, American-flag-style thing. The New England flag is a great addition.

for me

it’s better than our last kits. that’s all that really matters. i do hope the NE flag concept continues. in a new logo/crest would be nice.

Split Household

I think the kit are simply terrible. I do not see what the big deal about the NE flag is. I find the design uninspiring if not totally ugly. However, my 16 year old son loves it. As I believe that he is the target audience and not me, it must be quite a success.
A jersey for me as to remind people of history and legacy. The Liverpool Red. The Barca blaunegra. The Real white. Juventus black and white. and so on. To use US sport, Raiders silver and black. Steelers black and gold. Celtic green. Yankees pinstrippes. What do we have? A hodge podge mix of color and shape with no rhymes or reason. I hate it. But as I said, my son loves it so Adidas and the FO must know what they are doing. Wonder how many people were at the dead cave stadium yesterday?

Regarding Shalrie as a DP, this is TERRIBLE news. Shalrie skills have been declining over the past couple of years and you would want your DP to improve the team. He is getting old and slow. Yes he is the captain. But calling him a DP? How many games do you think he will turn in its head the way the LA or NY DP would do?

This is not a good use of the Kraft cash. I know that the fans have a man crush on Shalrie but he is not the player he used to be. I believe that we could get better and younger talent for a DP.

Give it to the REvs to get a DP and NOT increase the team talent.

Why do I support this team? Why do I buy season tickets? I must be a total loser. It is the only reason I can see.

We DO have two other DP slots, you know

So it’s not like this handcuffs the Revs. And this actually means he costs the team less money against the cap.

Besides, how much worse do you think this club is without him right now? It’s going to take more than one whirlwind offseason to find a replacement for last season’s top scorer and consensus best outfield player.

PK do help!

May be against the cap but it will cost more money to the Krafts. And if they are willing to spend, I would rather see an reinforcement than the same players.

I have met Shalrie and there is no doubt he is a great guy. He is caring, he is helping defavorised kid with his club and he has lost more skills that Boggs and Schilawski would ever master, combined.

But he has lost a step with aging and his skills are likely to do down than up. He is not the Shalrie of 07. He is still a Mercedes but he is a 10 year old MErcedes rather than one fresh from the lot.

And his goal tally this year was inflated thanks to PK taking duties (as was Lekic).

Listen, I am really glad he will finish his career here. He deserves it and I am glad he hit pay day. However, as a supporter, I would rather my DPs to be new players to the squad then accounting manipulation.

How much worse the club would be without him? Without Lekic, Zerka and Caraglio, having Joseph makes no difference. If your teammates are Nyassi, Mansally, Boggs and Schilawski, you are on the outside looking in. Your team will be terrible.

Anyway, the Revs picked Boorman on the re-entry draft. What do you know about him? Other than he was making league minimun which was probably his best feature for management.

PS: I don’t mean to be overly negative but I would for once to be able to cheer a REAL good news which would make me believe the future got a little less dark.

On a completely different topic, is there a way to get a sense of the STH renewal rate? After the team worst season in history, Fortgate and the succession of empty promises (SSS in 12 months, a fake DP, etc), I wonder how many people said FU to the Revs.

by ExiledinUSA on Dec 5, 2011 1:14 PM EST up reply actions

Don't forget, only Shalrie's salary above $335k costs the Krafts anything

I see what you mean, but I still think he’s the cream of the crop here right now and deserves to be paid as such. I wouldn’t be surprised if a new payday and some stability in the coaching/FO ranks gives Shalrie new life this season. I mean, 33 is old but it’s not THAT old. Preki had an MVP season at age 40 not so long ago in this league, and that was as a dynamic attacking player. I think the last two or three seasons have just weighed down on Shalrie a little bit, but a new regime tends to shake off the cobwebs and invigorate a squad.

Our expectations are high and, having been a terrible team for a few years now, it’s natural that we’re getting down on every decision made recently. But we have to remember that there’s a new structure AND a new coach, who (as far as I know) has really no staff. Things may not progress quite as fast as we’d like, but the Revs did lock up Reis and Joseph, and were one of the few teams to act in the first stage of the re-entry draft (and the only team of the three that made a smart move, IMO). Baby steps, here. I think we have reason to be optimistic.

I understand the cap

I understand that making Shalrie a DP saves the Kraf $. I am happy Shalrie gets a derseved pay day. I just wish that they would have kept paying him and use the money to add a DP.
Let’s face it, Shalrie was a DP who did not count as a DP. We could have added 3 more and have 4 DP level on the team. Now we used a spot for Shalrie. Team is the same level of talent except Krafts save cash. They are the only winners. Team is not better but has burned a DP spot. Supporters are supporting the same low talent team.

I really hope that Shalrie will reignite his fire with the new situation. Although I believe it is only pre-season exhuberant optimisim but I hope to be proved wrong.

Can you please explain why getting Boorman is a good move and the other two were not?

by ExiledinUSA on Dec 6, 2011 10:06 AM EST up reply actions

It doesn't save the Krafts anything

It costs them more. You’re missing the point. MLS pays salaries, not the ownership. So if they kept him as a non-DP, he costs the Krafts nothing, but making him a DP marks a situation where the Krafts are actually shelling out dough.

I’m wondering what the redesign cost the Revs. I’d be willing to bet that a lot of that is Adidas, and the costs to the team were relatively minimal in the grand scheme of things, but I don’t know. Can anybody else give me any information there?

by mrsouffle on Dec 5, 2011 1:29 PM EST up reply actions

I have a feeling that in MLS

Adidas makes a lot of the rules. It would explain a long-standing lack of creativity for most kits.

I'll have you know

that Gillette was not a “dead cave stadium” on Saturday. in fact it was jam packed…. with tweens and parents…. all there for the Massachusetts high school football championship games…

…sigh

Couldn’t get in in time for the unveiling (which I hear happened early?) because of traffic and parking. With all the marketing of the event, it might’ve been nice to get a heads-up about the OTHER events, for planning purposes.

by mrsouffle on Dec 5, 2011 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

i had much of the same isses (traffic and parking). i got to the pro shop at like 4:58 and the Shalrie announcement had already been made. so yeah, they did start early. and all the high school football stuff was super annoying.

by Corey E. Major on Dec 5, 2011 5:08 PM EST up reply actions

It is for the Revs

I only go to Foxboro to see the Revs 17 times a year and it is a dead cave stadium.
I know that when the players in tights play, the stadium is full. I know when big concernt names come, the stadium is full.
I also know when the Revs plays, the stands are emtpy and you can hear a pin drop. It is an empty dead cave.
